My name is Liz and I live in the big city of Toronto, Canada. I’m a Pinterest Marketer by day and a Lindy Hop/Rockabilly/1920’s-1960’s Vintage Lover by Night. OH and I adore Travel.

I’m a very busy gal and my friends are amazed on how I manage to do everything I do without passing out. Well I’m not really sure to be exact lol! Many of my nights consist of: Lindy Hopping, vintage shopping at my fav stores in Toronto (or on my computer on etsy at a coffee shop), listening to live Jazz/Swing/Rockabilly (and dancing), meeting up with my vintage ladies (and gents) from the “Toronto Vintage Society“, visiting my favourite Tiki Bar-The Shameful Tiki Toronto & planning my next big travel trip plus so much more.

I truly love life and I think many of my blog posts show this.

Check out a post I did on my “Vintage Influences” to learn a bit more about me!

LAST IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT MY BLOG CONTENT (Please take a moment to read. August 2020 update):

Hi Fans of the Vintage Inn Blog!

I wanted to send this message to you today to clear up any questions that some of my readers may be having about how I write my blog posts. This is coming from an email I received recently from a follower of my blog and I felt I should address it to my readers as a whole in case anyone else had the same question.

The question was:  “I’m wondering if it’s really necessary to point out which students are black. I just didn’t see the relevance and it made me uncomfortable, pointing out the ‘otherness’ of the black students while the white students are simply… students.”

Specfically why I say things like “Black women in a 1940s hairstyle”, or “Black Students in Colleges” (as examples) when describing my photos or other content.

Here is my reply and reasoning:

Dear X,

“When you type into the internet vintage hairstyles what comes up? Photos and images of white people. What has to be really searched to find? Images of black people in these hairstyles. I am making it easier when a Black person searches for vintage hairstyles or Black students in college, or Black students playing tennis etc. to be able to find that content instead of sifting thru thousands and thousands of photos of white people that dominate the internet.

I do marketing for a living and SEO (search engine optimization) is key when you want people to find content they are looking for. Black women are deep diving into their searches with words like “Black women with 1940s hairstyles” or “Vintage Hairstyles for black women” etc. I know this because I have done my research and I want them to find the content they are searching for. So I use the word Black to describe who they are in the photo. I don’t need to say white because when I search for vintage hairstyles I see white women (same with man of my other topics).

I do this for all my content. I want to do my part in bringing Black imagery, glamour, hairstyles etc. to the forefront of the internet (so there is more representation on the web) and the best way to do this is to state exactly what it is.”

Thanks for reaching out,

Liz

====================

I love all of my readers so making my reasons clear on why I do what I do, should be very transparent to all of you.  So if you had a question about why I was doing this I hoped this helped.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to meeting again over on my blog.

Stay Safe Friends!

  1. I love this and as a ’50’s fan, I especially liked your blog on dancing at Viva Las Vegas.

As a Lindy Hopper who lives 50’s rock, next time I am up at Viva, please save me a dance!

    • Ahh thanks Michael, I’m so glad you loved this 🙂 I will 100% save you a dance for sure! I love when I go to Viva and the lindy hoppers come out to dance, it’s the perfect combination of my two loves-Lindy and 50’s under one roof. AMAZING!

I see your a dance instructor yourself, teaching 50’s Jitterbug, how fun. I liked your Facebook page as well, who knows I maybe in the that neck of the woods some day.

Have a wonderful day Michael 🙂

  5. Hi Liz,
I took my teenage daughter, a musician to a Big Band concert at the Spiegletent at Bard College last night and we were talking with another young female musician how it would be fantastic to see an all female big band. And, then I found your blog post today which I will share with them. Thank you! An important part of history and their music education.

    • Oh I’m so glad that this information will be passed on! This is why I do my blog so that others can learn and share just like I am doing 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

  6. Glad you like the photo of my sisters and I on Easter. My grandma made the coats and probably the dresses underneath. Mom was a great stylist and had two more girls to dress up after us. Dad was great about getting photos each year. It’s really weird to find out your image is all over the internet and everyone lives it.

    • Hi Teresa, is it okay that I shared your photo? I can remove it if it an issue, not a problem just let me know. As for the image itself it is really cool that you shared the story behind the photo. I do adore the clothes in this photo and was very drawn to this wonderful memory. Thank you for reaching out.

  7. Hi Liz

A belated Happy International Women’s Day! I love the old cars pictures. I noticed a young woman wearing ‘saddle shoes’. They were my favourite when growing up. Also, your pictures are great and I love your green sleeveless dress!

  8. Nov, 2024. It was such fun today to – stumble upon your blog. In the midst of sorting and sifting through my great ancestors – treasures that had been packed away for many decades in the attic & dusty caverns of the garage of my childhood home – a massive task a treasure trove. In taking a break from the cob webs & dust, I found your blog. It has refreshed my enthusiam & inspired me to continue – sorting, sifting, reminissing & cataloguing the treasures found. Thanks for the uplifting work you do to Celebrate Vintage. And, to treasure the past.

    • Ahhhh thank you so very much for those kind words! I write my blog for my readers to enjoy stepping back in time and I’m so glad you enjoyed it and chose to share your joy with me. I truly appreciate it.

      Have a wonderful day!

      Liz
